Why do Defibrillators say clear?
We have all seen movies and TV shows where a doctor yells “clear” before a person receives treatment from a Defibrillator. You will also be warned to “stand clear” when using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) in a real-life emergency situation in your workplace or in a public space.
Why is there this warning? When a person receives a shock, if you are too close to them you can receive a shock too. If you accidentally receive a shock, usually it won’t cause you lasting harm, however, it can mean the shock the patient received was not as effective as it should be.
Have you got an AED for your workplace? It’s well worth it! In Australia, 20,000 people a year suffer a sudden cardiac arrest out of hospital. Only around 2000 will survive. If everyone had access to a portable Defibrillator within 3-4 minutes we could save 15,000 lives. We have high-quality Defibrillators, that are simple to use and easy to maintain. With great prices and long lifespans, saving lives is also more cost-effective than ever!

Hey there fellow Defibrillator afficiando! I'm Jack, a first aid trainer based in beautiful Penrith, NSW at the foot of the Blue Mountains.
